Applicants kept waiting for veterans home that had open beds


The federal government isn't alone in failing to provide top-notch service to aging and ill veterans and their spouses. Pennsylvania's system could do better, too, state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said in a recent audit.

Applicants were out of order on waiting lists for some of the state's six veterans care homes; spouses were kept waiting to get in one home when beds were available; and admissions policies weren't enforced uniformly, the audit found.
